Rob Ford Bomb Threat Email Gives Toronto Mayor 12 Hours to Quit

Toronto mayor Rob Ford reported that a bomb threat email was received Monday demanding that he and his brother, Councillor Doug Ford, resign within 12 hours.

"This is very serious," he told The National Post around 2 p.m. as police began searching the building with bomb-sniffing dogs. "It’s disturbing, I just want to let people in this great city know what’s going on. I’m moving on — it’s business as usual."

Ford read the entirety of the email for reporters, and the Post tweeted out a copy of the email.

"What’s wrong with your f—ing brother. I sent an email to him at city hall and he has 12 hours to vacate otherwise city hall will blow," said the email.

"I have already set up an explosive around. Since you guys have been back, it’s been chaos. So here’s the message: You have 24 hours to vacatge [sic] city hall. You and your brother. No fuss, no argument, no whinning [sic] no nothing. If you walk everything is fine but if you ignore this warning, cityt [sic] hall will disappear from this map and believe me, I am not joking. Bombs [sic] already set up."

Toronto police Inspector Frank Barredo cleared the building after doing a thorough sweep of the premises, concluding, "We don’t believe there is any evidence to support any danger to the public or to any elected official." Ford commended the police for a "fantastic job" as they eventually vacated the premises.

The mayor recently returned from a two months stint in rehab, telling reporters that he has abused nearly every illegal drug besides heroin. He blamed drugs for fueling his oftentimes erratic behavior that have made him a media sensation.

"I think that goes along with having this disease," said Ford upon his return to office. "(When using drugs), you do things, you say things that just aren't you. I take full responsibility . . . All I can do is apologize and deal with this disease. This is an everyday battle that I'm going to have to deal with for the rest of my life. This is the beginning of a long, long journey."
