Fitness guru Richard Simmons was reportedly hospitalized Friday after displaying bizarre behavior and released a day later saying he was dehydrated.

Someone at Simmons' home called 911 late Friday, and Simmons agreed to go to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, TMZ reported.

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital," Simmons said in a statement released by his publicist, Tom Estey, according to various news sites. "I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great! Summer is here — drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring."

The fitness instructor and former TV personality first drew concern when he vanished from public view in 2013. In March, the New York Daily News reported that close friends were worried that his housekeeper was blocking access to him.

"Teresa did turn me away several times," a friend told the Daily News of Teresa Reveles, who has been Simmons' live-in maid for nearly 30 years. "He has missed funerals of close friends. He was the most reliable and caring person on the planet, and then to suddenly vanish? I have come to believe that something else is happening. I don’t think Richard is in there of his own volition."

The 67-year-old fitness celebrity soon denied the claims in an interview with ET Online, however.

"I am not kidnapped," Simmons told the celebrity gossip site. "I am just in my house right now. No one should be worried about me. The people that surround me are wonderful people who take great care of me."

He called the Daily News article "hurtful" and insisted he was just taking care of himself.

"I love all the people who worry about me. But it was time for me to take some time to be by myself," Simmons told ET. "For the last 40 years I have been traveling, teaching classes, and I had a knee injury, so I had a knee replacement, which was very difficult for me. I have really just been taking it easy, staying at home, working out in my gym and doing the things I haven't done in a very long time."

Twitter users shared jokes and concerns for the fitness guru.
