Actor Richard Dreyfuss is suing Walt Disney Pictures over profit participation audits that determine how much money participants are due for films including “What About Bob?”

The lawsuit, which also involves Christine Wagner, whose late husband, Raymond Wagner, produced “Turner and Hooch,” claims Disney refused to hire an auditor chosen by Dreyfuss and Wagner.

The lawsuit claims that Disney refused to allow auditor Robinson Inc. to perform audits on behalf of Dreyfuss and Wagner because the company “is a particularly effective and aggressive auditor who is usually able to achieve large recoveries for its clients,” Deadline reported.

The lawsuit alleges that Disney blocks firms that have relevant expertise in auditing studios, by insisting that audits be done “by a national firm of reputable CPAs,” The Hollywood Reporter said.

The lawsuit lists a small number of firms that the plaintiffs consider to have relevant expertise in auditing studios while arguing that "the so-called 'Big Four' accounting firms have no reputation for or competence in this regard."

According to the complaint: "Disney has not stated any basis for its conclusion that Robinson Inc. is not a nationally recognized firm. Apparently, no one can leave a 'nationally recognized firm,' and start out on his or her own without running afoul of Disney's policy regarding the same. What Disney has done is reduce an already very small pool of auditors to a nearly non-existent puddle, and made it exceedingly difficult for profit participants to retain the best possible representation and be paid the monies they are due."

The suit, which also takes issue with the long wait to examine studio books, claims breach of contract, unlawful interference in the pursuit of a lawful profession, and interference with contractual relations, Variety reported.
