A Boston Red Sox fan was banned for life from Fenway Park after he used a racial slur during a conversation with another fan at the ballpark Tuesday.

The incident came one day after Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones complained that Red Sox fans shouted racial taunts at him in the outfield during a game Monday, the Boston Herald reported. The incident involving Jones, during which he also said a bag of peanuts was thrown at him, made national headlines and resulted in an apology from Red Sox management.

The Red Sox crowd Tuesday night gave Jones a standing ovation during his first at-bat after the racial incident was made public, reported the Herald.

Before the start of that game, Calvin Hennick was in the stands with his 6-year-old biracial son Nile when a Kenyan woman sang the national anthem, reported Boston.com. Hennick said a middle-aged white man leaned over to him and used a racial slur to describe the woman's rendition of the song.

Hennick said he notified team security of the incident and the man was ejected from the game, noted Boston.com. Red Sox president Sam Kennedy told the Herald that the fan later was notified that he had been banned from the stadium for life.

"It's unprecedented, so it may be difficult (to enforce)," Kennedy said, according to the Herald. "But I can tell you, this was an individual game buyer, not a season-ticket holder. There are ways. We have eyes and ears on the ballpark.

"But we may not be perfect, we may not get it exactly right, but we have informed this person that they are no longer welcome at Fenway. Our security knows, and we're dealing with it in real time as you can tell. We're going to work hard to do our best to enforce it," Kennedy continued.

Reaction to the fan ban on social media was mixed.
