A little girl snatched Pope Francis’ hat from off his head when he leaned in to give her a kiss on the cheek at the Vatican and he just broke into a chuckle.

A Vatican aid was holding 3-year-old Estella Westrick when she pulled the cap – known as a zucchetto – right off his head, said US Magazine.

“He came and gave her a kiss on the cheek, and she just grabbed it,” said Mountain Butorac, a Catholic blogger and the girl’s godfather, according to the Metro. “I took them over there to hopefully get a good view of the pope, and she ended up taking the hat.”

"It was hilarious, everyone was laughing, including the Pope," Butorac told CNN.

The crowd nearby burst into laughter as well, and even Estella giggled a bit before handing Francis his white zucchetto, US magazine noted.

The Vatican aide who was holding Estella quickly pulled her back as the Pope put his skullcap back on his head. Francis then continued greeting the people around him with a huge smile, as they took pictures and video of him.

Estella is in Rome for the first time, visiting the Capital of Italy with her parents from Atlanta, Georgia.

“It’s her first full day in Rome, who knows what she will get up to tomorrow,” Butorac told CNN.
