Peeps Milk: Easter Candy-Flavored Milk Hits Midwestern Shelves

Peeps-flavored milk, inspired by the taste of Easter’s top sweet treat, is appearing on store shelves in Midwestern states, made by Prairie Farms and sporting names like Chocolate Marshmallow and Easter Egg Nog.

Peeps are billed on the Prairie Farm website as the No. 1 Easter candy with more than 1.5 billion sold every year.

The milk will only be available in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, southeast Wisconsin, eastern Iowa, and southwest Ohio, the Prairie Farm site said.

That limited market area is generating some desperate tweets:



But surprisingly, despite the popularity and sales figures of the brightly colored marshmallow chicks, the Internet community was spewing out horrified (and humorous) tweets about Peeps Milk:







While it’s unlikely to cause diabetes by itself, Peeps-flavored milk does have more sugar than regular milk.

Prairie Farms whole milk has 11 grams of sugar per cup, but the Peeps milk comes in at 37 grams per cup, USA Today noted. That’s about equivalent to a 12-ounce bottle of soda, which is around 39 ounces of sugar.
