A pastor interrupted Donald Trump during a speech at a church in Flint, Michigan, telling him to stop attacking Hillary Clinton, so he did and switched gears to the city's infamous water crisis.

Trump on Wednesday was touring the city “plagued by lead-contaminated drinking water since Gov. Rick Snyder switched the city’s water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River in 2014 as a cost-cutting measure,” as The Hill put it.

He was giving a speech at Bethel United Methodist Church and took a couple of ‘jabs’ at Clinton when Rev. Faith Green Timmons, the pastor of the church, interrupted him on the spot.

“Hillary failed on the economy, just like she’s failed on foreign policy. Everything she touched didn’t work out – nothing. Now Hilary Clinton –“ Trump was saying before being interrupted.

“Mr. Trump, I invited you here to thank us…not to give a political speech,” Timmons said.

Trump quickly stopped, then said “Ok, that’s good, then I’m going to go back to Flint,” which he did by discussing the water crisis, according to The Associated Press.

The interruption roused a few members in the crowd, including one woman who told Trump he used discriminatory housing practices in his buildings. He responded immediately, “Never, you’re wrong. Never would.”

Trump then cut things short, and as he left the church, there was more heckling.

Timmons issued a statement later.

“This public event is open to all and today Donald Trump came to observe. Trump’s presence at Bethel United Methodist in no way represents an endorsement of his candidacy,” according to CNN.

This was Trump’s first trip to Flint since its water crisis. Even though his speech was cut short, he did address the crisis at the church.

“We will get it fixed and it will be fixed and effectively and Flint will come back. Most importantly, we’ll bring jobs back,” he said.

More than 100,000 people in Flint had their water contaminated since April 2014, when lead was first detected in the city’s water supply, the AP noted.

Trump’s appearance in Flint was part of the campaign’s effort to prove to voters that the celebrity businessman is sympathetic to the crisis and that he can be presidential in moments like this, said the AP. Trump is now shifting his focus to his upcoming showing in the industrial Midwest.
