The debut of 'Okja' at Cannes Film Festival was interrupted by technical difficulties during the press screening of the Netflix film, and festival organizers have apologized for the problems.

Members of the press were not happy about the delay that occurred during the beginning of the press screening for Netflix's competition film early Friday morning, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

When the screening started, the top and bottom halves of the screen experienced misframing, which sparked immediate boos from the international press corps.

After several minutes of technical issues, the screening was suspended and didn't start up again until 15 minutes later, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The Cannes Film Festival offered an apology following the incident.

"A technical problem occurred during the press screening of 'Okja,' film by Bong Joon Ho, this morning at the 8:30 a.m. screening at the Auditorium Lumiere," Cannes said in a statement Friday. "After an interruption of several minutes, the screening started again and went normal."

"This incident is completely due to the technical staff of the festival who deeply apologize to the director and his team, to the producers as well as to the audience," the statement continued.

This comes after Cannes responded to more criticism last week regarding its decision to include two Netflix films -- "Okja" being one of them -- in Friday's festival because they hadn't appeared in cinemas first, according to The Guardian.

Tilda Swinton, who stars in "Okja," told the media that the controversy over the film had been exaggerated.

"Let’s be honest, there are thousands of films at Cannes that won’t be screened in a cinema," she said, according to The Guardian. "It’s an enormous and really interesting conversation. As in every matter there is room for everyone."
