"Ocean's Eight," a female-driven spinoff of the "Ocean's Eleven" movie trilogy, will start filming in New York, bringing together A-listers like Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett and possibly Anne Hathaway and singer Rihanna.

Deadline.com reported that the film will be produced by Steven Soderbergh, who directed the star-studded "Ocean's Eleven," that included George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts. The website said that along with Academy Award winners Bullock and Blanchett, deals "are close" with Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and Nora Lum.

"Both [Bullock and Blanchett] have won Oscars and so has Hathaway, with Carter nominated twice," stated Deadline.com writer Mike Fleming Jr. "This is turning out to be quite the prestige ensemble as Warner Bros moves aggressively to continue the caper franchise hatched way back in 1960 with a film that starred Frank Sinatra in the title role of Danny Ocean."

Bonham Carter praised the "Ocean's Eight" script during a June interview with Entertainment Weekly but did not confirm her involvement with the project at the time.

"It's a really good script — but I still don't know if I’m going to be in it," Bonham Carter, a veteran of the "Harry Potter" movie series, told Entertainment Weekly back then. "But it's a great script, and it's great for women. Just hilarious."

Rhianna, best known as a chart-topping singer, recently finished shooting the movie "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," wrote Deadline. She also appeared in the 2012 movie "Battleship."

Lum, also known by her rapper name, Awkwafina, was featured this year in the Seth Rogan comedy "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising."

"Hunger Games" director Gary Ross has also joined the "Oceans Eight" project, according to Variety.

Ross told the website Slashfilm in June that "Ocean's Eight" will have "a pretty similar tone" to the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy.

"You know, Steven Soderbergh and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren't," Ross said. "… This is very much an extension and a continuation. He's a producer on the movie.

"… It's a very long, ongoing collaboration. This, I think, is a very seamless process. We're different filmmakers, obviously, so there will be those differences, but one of the things I'm drawn to is the amazing tone Steven was able to create, and we discuss that a lot," Ross continued.
