A CoverGirl ad encouraging female NFL fans to “Get Your Game Face On!” has been altered in Photoshop to make the model Baltimore Ravens fan appear to have a black eye.

The altered ad has spread on social media, often including the hashtag #GoodellMustGo, in reference to calls for the removal of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell amidst criticism of the NFL’s handling of the domestic violence scandal involving Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice.

CoverGirl, the official beauty partner of the National Football League, recently launched its “Get Your Game Face On!” marketing campaign, with ads featuring models wearing makeup in the colors of each of the league’s 32 teams.

After the Photoshopped ad went viral, CoverGirl issued a statement to E! News: "As a brand that has always supported women and stood for female empowerment, COVERGIRL believes domestic violence is completely unacceptable. We developed our NFL program to celebrate the more than 80 million female football fans. In light of recent events, we have encouraged the NFL to take swift action on their path forward to address the issue of domestic violence."

Rice was suspended indefinitely from the NFL after video footage showed him knocking out his then-fiancee Janay Palmer. Rice initially received a two-game suspension.

Twitter expressed mixed reactions to the altered CoverGirl ad.
