Netflix's Bill Cosby stand up special, originally slated for release the day after Thanksgiving, has been indefinitely postponed in the wake of several new rape allegations against him.

"At this time we are postponing the launch of the new stand-up comedy special Bill Cosby 77," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Cosby's representative said it was a mutual decision.

The special, taped in San Francisco on Cosby's birthday this past July, was billed as a candid look into "intimate and wildly entertaining stories from his childhood, first loves, and the endless adventure of parenthood." It also promised to show the 77-year-old comic "at the top of his craft."

All of that is now postponed, and a fellow comic is partially credited with bringing that about. That comic, Hannibal Buress, called Cosby a rapist in a stand-up bit last month, alluding to a 2006 civil suit brought by Andrea Constand, which was settled out of court.

Since then, more women have come forward with rape allegations of their own, the most recent being Joan Tarshis and Janice Dickinson.

Cosby has been making a comeback in recent years, performing a Comedy Central special in 2013 and announcing a new NBC series pilot this year. But the fate of his career and lasting legacy have become increasingly uncertain in light of the new allegations, with Netflix postponing and NBC having yet to weigh in on the recent controversy.

When asked about the sexual assault allegations during an interview on Saturday, Cosby remained silent, and only shook his head.

After the interview, his attorney provided a statement that said "decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby doesn't not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment."

The Washington Post noted that other stars accused of sexual misconduct, like Woody Allen, have continued to work in the wake of allegations against them, however Cosby's case is different insofar as he's been traditionally associated with family-friendly content, whereas others haven't been.
