Moto 360 Smartwatch Secrets Given Away in Blogger's Photos

By    |   Wednesday, 06 Aug 2014 11:47 AM

The Moto 360 smartwatch, according to photos displayed Wednesday by Italian blogger Luca Viscardi, will be stylish, easy to charge, water resistant and made of stainless steel. Did we mention it's an Android device?

The series of photos on Viscardi's Mister Gadget blog shows a round version of the Moto 360 smartwatch, along with a rectangular-shaped version, and it also included the watch connected to one of its chargers.

Steve Dent of the tech blog Engadget.com said images of the new smartphone gave away a lot of secrets about the Moto 360 that many tech lovers will be interested in.

"The foremost detail is a wireless inductive charger that looks easy to use – no small thing, since that fancy display will no doubt eat the battery quickly," Dent wrote for Engadget.com. "It's also a wise choice considering the skin irritation bugs with the LG G Watch's charging pins, which the Moto 360 lacks."

Dent wrote that the ability to charge the Moto 360 with a Nexus 5 charger will make more tech fans happy, along with other bells and whistles.

"The back reveals the presence of an optical heart rate sensor and confirms that the water resistant case will be built from 316L stainless steel," Dent wrote.

Darrell Etherington of Tech Crunch said on his blog that smartwatch charging has been a critical issue with the products currently on the market and it appears that the Moto 360 has tried to solve that problem.

"Basically, the pictures do everything to reinforce my impression that this will be hands-down the best Android Wear watch available in terms of style and good looks when it finally hits the market, hopefully this month," Etherington wrote.

"Wireless charging, if executed well, should also do away with one of the most annoying aspects of existing Wear watches, since it won't require a proprietary charging cradle – any pad with Qi induction charging compatibility should work in theory," he added.

Chris Smith, of the tech website BGR.com, said the Moto 360's battery is expected to last 2.5 times longer than the G Watch, going four days on a single charge, but he noticed one problem, according to Mister Gadget.

"Interestingly, it appears that not all apps that work on square Android Wear devices will necessarily be compatible with round devices and vice-versa," Smith said for BGR.com.
