Morgan Freeman, piloting his own plane, had to take off and land several times after malfunctions kept him from leaving on time Friday for the Toronto Film Festival.

Though he was late, he eventually arrived safely at the premiere of his "Ruth & Alex" film, in which he stars with Diane Keaton.

“The slats would not retract in the air,” Freeman told The Hollywood Reporter of his plane. “On the ground they were fine, but in the air they were a problem. We were about 10 minutes in the air trying to get them to retract but they didn’t so we went back and landed.”

He "cycled the slats" a few times on the ground with no problems, and so he took off again but experienced the same problem. He landed again and repeated the whole process a few times, THR said.

Eventually Freeman, who owns two planes, took the other one to Toronto but was an hour and a half late.

"I was never in any danger," Freeman told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Ruth & Alex" stars Freeman and Keaton as a married couple who must tackle personal and real estate problems as they mull selling their longtime Brooklyn town home that is becoming overrun by hipsters.
