Missing Girl Ashley Summers, Gone 8 Years, Resembles Wanted Woman

Ashley Summers, a Cleveland girl who went missing in 2007 at age 14, may have been identified as a suspect in a recent crime spree.

NBC News reported that Ashley's step-grandmother, Linda Summers, found online a photo publicized by Rhode Island police of a man and a woman taken at an ATM machine. The couple are suspected of committing multiple instances of identity theft and credit card fraud across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Linda sent the picture to the FBI, and on Wednesday, the bureau began publicizing the photo across the eastern seaboard.

"The FBI is utilizing a billboard campaign, social media and any news outlet that will air these photos for us," Special Agent Vicki Anderson of the FBI Cleveland Division told CNN.

"There's nothing that tells us that it is her, but there's nothing telling us that it's not her either . . . We've had other supposed lookalikes, but nothing that has looked this similar. We consider this a huge tip for us," she added.

Summers' disappearance was for a time thought to be connected to a May 2013 case in which police discovered three women had been imprisoned inside a Cleveland home for nearly a decade. After questioning the kidnappers, however, police said Summers' case seems to be unrelated.

Summers, who would now be 21 years old, is said to have a tattoo of the name "Gene" on her arm, and police are asking people to keep an eye out for the possible identifying mark.
