Middleton Ferrari Crash Kills Owner of 3 Car Dealerships

A Ferrari crash in Middleton, Massachusetts, killed two passengers on Sunday night, including the owner of three Lynn car dealerships.

"It appears that it went off the road, spun out, and burst into flames . . . At this time, accident reconstruction is doing its investigation," Middleton Police Chief James DiGianvittorio told ABC affiliate WVCB. "It appears speed may have been a factor based on the area, the time of night and the way the car ended up."

Michael Iovanna, the owner of Pride Motor Group, was identified as the driver of the car, which skidded out of control and crashed into a tree on Peabody Street.

"It’s a rural and windy street, but it’s used by a lot of residents," DiGianvittorio said. "The traffic was very light."

He said that there were no witnesses to the crash, but many residents of nearby houses said they heard the tires screeching across the pavement before it hit the tree. Those residents immediately called 911 upon seeing the wreckage at 6:02 p.m., CBS Boston reported.

"I was at the top of my driveway and I heard the horn beeping nonstop," said local man James Gilroy. "I looked and there were flames probably 20 to 30 feet in the air. I told my wife to call 911, but it was clearly too late."

"It’s a terrible tragedy. Our hearts go out to the families," said Middleton Fire Chief Frank Twist. "It’s a small town, and it will have an impact, I’m sure."

The Pride Motor Group, comprised of the Chevrolet, Hyundai, and Kia dealerships, said that the Iovanna family has owned the business since the early 1990s.

"This is a sad day at Pride," the group told WVCB. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael and his family."
