Michael Mantenuto, the actor and hockey player who starred in Disney’s "Miracle" over a decade ago, was found dead in his car on Monday in Des Moines, Washington. He was 35.

The actor apparently shot himself, according to TMZ.

Col. Guillaume Beaurpere, commander of the Army unit that Mantenuto joined after his acting career, made the news public in a press release, which was posted to the Special Forces Group Facebook page.

"Those of you that knew Mike will remember him for his passionate love for his family and his commitment to the health of the force," the post reads.

Mantenuto played hockey at the University of Maine before starring in "Miracle" in 2004, a movie about the U.S. men’s hockey team that won a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympics, according to Variety.

That team was deemed the "Miracle on Ice" after their victory over the Soviet team. Following that win, the team went on to defeat Finland for the gold medal.

Mantenuto would only appear in a couple of other films following his claim to fame in "Miracle."

He appeared in the 2006 TV movie "Dirtbags" and in the 2008 film "Surfer, Dude."

After his acting career was cut short, Mantenuto joined the military.

Mantenuto leaves behind a wife, Kati, and two young children.

Twitter users remembered the actor.
