Melissa McCarthy Starts Plus-Size Clothing Line With Daniella Pearl

Emmy-winning actress Melissa McCarthy is starting her own line of plus-size clothing because she couldn’t find stylish clothes in her size.

“When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed,” McCarthy, 43, told Redbook magazine in an interview. “Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers — very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people — and they all said no.”

McCarthy has been collaborating with couture dress maker Daniella Pearl for the clothing line called Pearl. The two worked together to design the gown McCarthy wore to the 2011 Emmy Awards when she won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role on CBS’ “Mike and Molly.”

Before becoming an actress, McCarthy studied fashion design.

Since her Oscar dress snub, McCarthy has had starring roles in “Bridesmaids,” “The Heat,” and “Identity Theft.” Her new movie, “Tammy,” is set to be released in theaters July 2.
