Melanie Griffith Home Sale: After Banderas Split, House Up for $16.1M

Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas put their Los Angeles home up for sale for $16.1 million, apparently a decision that resulted from the ending of their 18-year marriage.

Griffith filed for divorce in March, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The couple bought the home for $4.2 million in 1999 and have done significant work since then, The Wall Street Journal said. They bought a nearby lot for $1.3 million and combined the two lots to add a garden and pool, and create an acre-and-a-half property.

The home, which is an Italian revival style, was designed by Gordon B. Kaufmann, the same architect who designed the Hoover Dam. Its 15,000 square feet of living space includes 13 bedrooms and 11 baths. Variety, however, listed the house with just seven bedrooms.

“It has a two-story banquet hall, a dining room with hand-stenciled ceilings, a library, four fireplaces and an elevator,” the WSJ said. “In 2011, President Obama held a fundraiser aimed at Latino supporters at the house, according to press reports.”

“Listing details show the carefully maintained and sumptuously furnished mansion retains many original and restored architectural details,” Variety reported.

Griffith and Banderas have not talked about their divorce, but made a statement together saying, “We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost 20-year marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family, and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together," the New York Daily News reported.

Griffith has been in the news lately when it was announced the movie “Roar” would be re-released by Drafthouse Movies. In it, Griffith’s mother Tippi Hedren and Griffith live with lions, just as they did in real life, The Daily Mail said.
