Poland's leaders have asked Mattel to remove a "Nazi Poland" card from its "Apples to Apples" game because it is “detrimental to the good name of our country.”

In a statement, Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna said Poles find a reference like that offensive because the country was never allied with Nazi Germany.

Those words were reiterated in posts online:

The "Apples to Apples" game involves players comparing different things. In the statement, the Polish leadership said that the wording "Nazi Poland" was "completely inconsistent with the historical truth and detrimental to the good name of our country."

The Polish government has urged people to protest the Mattel game on Twitter. The encouragement was working:

The incident occurred just after FBI Director James B. Comey linked Germany and Poland in a speech, insulting Poland. “In their minds, the murderers and accomplices of Germany, and Poland and Hungary, and so many, many other places didn’t do something evil,” Comey said. “They convinced themselves it was the right thing to do, the thing they had to do.”

Comey apologized to the Polish government for his statement. “I regret linking Germany and Poland in my speech because Poland was invaded and occupied by Germany. The Polish State bears no responsibility for the horrors imposed by the Nazis,” Comey said in a statement published on the Polish Embassy’s website.
