Martina Navratilova proposed to her girlfriend at the U.S. Open, and she said yes.

According to People magazine, Navratilova, 57, got down on one knee to propose to former Russian beauty queen Julia Lemigova, 42, between her commentating on the men's semifinal matches. The proposal, complete with diamond ring, was broadcast live on the Jumbotron at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York for all in attendance on Saturday. The crowd cheered as Lemigova said yes and the couple embraced.

"I was very nervous," Navratilova said later, The Associated Press reported via ESPN.

"It came off. She said yes. It was kind of an out-of-body experience. You've seen people propose at sporting events before, in movies, in real life. Here it was happening to me. It was like I was watching myself do it."

The tennis legend, who holds a record 18 Grand Slams, said that she hopes to get married in Florida, where the couple currently lives. They've been together since 2006, she said.

Time reported that same-sex marriage is not yet allowed in Florida, but a judge recently ruled the state's ban unconstitutional, and the couple expects the law will change within a year.

After the proposal and a little champagne, Navratilova was off for a "Champions" doubles match with Jana Novotna against Tracy Austin and Gigi Fernandez, where she also emerged with a win.

She later tweeted a note of thanks to all of those who congratulated her on Twitter.
