Married for 82 years, Duranord and Jeanne Veillard will celebrate their combined 212 years this weekend in Spring Valley, New York, in front of family, friends, and other well-wishers as the couple shares their amazing tale of longevity.

Duranord Veillard turns 108 on Saturday and Jeanne will turn 105 in May, giving them a combined 212 years between them, according to The Journal News. They have been married since November 1932. He studied law in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, after growing up in Les Cayes.

The couple moved to the United States in 1968 on a visa after Duranord Veillard lost his job as a judge in Haiti. They settled in Spring Valley and raised five children before Duranord Veillard took a job as a lab technician at Good Samaritan Hospital and worked there for about 10 years.

"He remembers everything," the couple's son Vely Veillard, 62, told The Journal News. "Look at him. He don't want to use a cane. He's a superstar."

The Veillards are thought to be Rockland County, New York's oldest married couple with a combined age of 212 years. Family members told the newspaper that they have 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The National Institute on Aging reported that the average life expectancy has increased greatly since the 20th century. According to the institute's website, most babies born in the 1900 did not live past age 50. Today, the average life expectancy in Japan exceeds 83 and tops at least 81 in several other countries.

Life expectancy has increased in most parts of the country except for Africa, but health experts attribute that to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, according the National Institute of Aging website. The most dramatic and rapid gains in life expectancy have occurred in East Asia countries, where life expectancy at birth increased from less than 45 years in 1950 to more than 74 years today, stated the institute.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that life expectancy in the United States reached a record 78.8 years in 2012. The CDC website stated that the age-adjusted death rate for the U.S. from 2011 to 2012 decreased to a record low 732.8 per 100,000 standard population.
