Mariel Hemingway: Woody Allen Had a Crush on Me When I Was 18

Mariel Hemingway, author Ernest Hemingway's actress granddaughter, reveals in her upcoming memoir that Oscar winner Woody Allen had a crush on her and made advances when she was just 18.

Hemingway described an incident in her book, "Out Came the Sun," in which Allen flew to her parents' Idaho home to convince them to let him take the teenager to Paris with him, according to excerpts obtained by Fox News. It was just after the two had filmed the 1979 movie "Manhattan," in which Hemingway played Allen's teenage girlfriend.

"Our relationship was platonic, but I started to see that he had a kind of crush on me, though I dismissed it as the kind of thing that seemed to happen any time middle-aged men got around young women," Hemingway writes.

"I didn't know what the arrangement was going to be, that I wasn't sure if I was even going to have my own room. Woody hadn't said that. He hadn't even hinted it. But I wanted (my parents) to put their foot down. They didn't. They kept lightly encouraging me."

Hemingway later demanded answers about the rooming situation for the Paris trip.

"I'm not going to get my own room, am I?" Hemingway remembers asking the famed director. When he declined to answer, she said she rejected the trip, according to Fox News.

Last year, sexual molestation charges against Allen reemerged when Dylan Farrow, his stepdaughter from his relationship with Mia Farrow, wrote an open letter to The New York Times bashing him after he received a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes.

Dylan Farrow claims that Allen touched her inappropriately when she was 7 years old, according to People magazine, but Allen has always insisted that Farrow made up the allegations out of spite after his affair with her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Farrow Previn.

Allen and Previn would later marry and a Connecticut prosecutor would decide not to pursue charges against the award-winning director because Dylan Allen was too "fragile" to withstand a trial. In 1993, a judge awarded Mia Farrow custody of the children in a protracted legal battle and denied Allen any visitation with Dylan.

Hemingway's "Out Came the Sun" also addresses her family's struggle with mental illness and suicide. It hits shelves April 7.
