Mariah Carey opened her Elusive Chanteuse world tour in Tokyo Saturday on a bad note, with videos surfacing online showing the singer struggling to hit the right notes.

GossipCop reported Carey had several problems during the show, but said at least one concert-goer reported things weren’t as bad as a few videos posted make them appear.

TMZ said it was possible some of the issues were caused by microphone problems but called the video performance “painful to watch.”

Many blasted the show and the Carey’s voice online, although local reviews of her performance were good.
