Maine Burglary Suspect Tracked by Social Media, Arrested in Cabinet

A Maine burglary suspect was tracked by social media and arrested while hiding in a cabinet on Sunday night.

The Morning Sentinel reported that Christopher Wallace, 24, was wanted by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the January theft of propane and wood stoves in Pierce Pond Township.

On Sunday, Wallace sent out a picture on Snapchat — a smartphone app — that indicated he had returned after some time away to his Norridgwock Road home. The sheriff's office soon received a phone tip about the post around 6:30 p.m.

The sheriff's office had itself made public is search for Wallace in late February, in part via its official Facebook page, The Associated Press reported.

After getting the tip, two sheriff's agents and two Fairfield police officers went to the residence, and were greeted by a young woman, 20. She allowed the officers to search the residence.

In the middle of the search, Wallace apparently posted another Snapchat indicating he was hiding in a cabinet.

Sure enough, police received another phone tip, and they soon found him.

"A search of the kitchen cabinets turned up some food, some pots and pans, and also a pair of feet," the sheriff's office wrote on its Facebook page soon after the arrest.

"The pair of feet just so happened to be attached to a person, and that person was Christopher Wallace. He was removed from the cabinet and placed under arrest . . . All of that brings me to the moral of the story. Always remain humble, my friends."
