Magician Rob Anderson: Fundraiser Benefits Homeless Vet in Prank (Video)

A fundraiser for the homeless veteran seen in the viral video that shows magician Rob Anderson ripping up the man's sign and turning it into cash has netted more than $27,000 for the man to get back on his feet.

The video showing Anderson destroying the sign of veteran Alan McCracken had more than 3.7 million views as of Friday afternoon.

At first, Anderson approaches and asks to hold the sign, which says, among other things, "Anything helps."

Anderson first asks McCracken if writing dollar signs on the sign would help, to which the homeless man, known for his good attitude and willingness to make people smile, replies, “Not really.”

When Anderson ripped the sign up, the veteran still doesn't get angry, and even asks, “Can I keep the magic marker to make another sign?”

And finally, McCracken seems to figure out that something is going on and asks if Anderson is one of those street magicians who would turn that "into a wad of money." As he asked, Anderson did just that, handing the man an intact sign with a bunch of cash in it.

Anderson said on McCracken's GoFundMe page that he started the fundraiser because he got to know McCracken after he filmed the now-viral video and found him to be just as kind as he seems in the film.

“After speaking with Alan, he told me ‘I'm not out here to fill my pockets ... I'm out here to fill my soul. The Lord will provide what I need,’” Anderson wrote. “Alan does not do any drugs, and is proud to tell you about overcoming alcoholism much earlier in life. He would love to find a job, but as he explained to me, it's difficult to find a job when you don't have a home to clean yourself up in, or a decent change of clothes to wear. If there's anyone who would be deserving of assistance to get back on their feet, it is Alan McCracken.”
