London Anti-Terror Raids Nab Four Suspects in Their Early 20s

London police conducted anti-terror raids across the British capital on Tuesday, capturing four suspected Islamic terrorists in their early 20s.

According to CBS News, the activity and plans of the suspects remains undisclosed. Police did report that no shots were fired while carrying out the search warrant. One suspect had to be subdued with a stun gun, however he suffered no injury in the process.

The suspects remain in custody for the time being, as authorities search their homes and vehicles.

"It is quite a serious case and it's one of a series of arrests we've had over the last few weeks which — when taken together — for me confirm that the drumbeat around terror has changed. It's a more intense drumbeat," said Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, the London Evening Standard reported.

"We are having to be more interventionist and a lot of it is linked back to Syria and Iraq. People think: 'It's another part of the world, what's it got to do with here?' Well, these are arrests that in some way of other have got that sort of link. I don't want to worry the people of London. We are here keep them safe and we believe we are on top of things, but there are some concerns about the people we're having to arrest."

By some estimates, between 1,500 and 2,500 Sunni Muslims from Europe have traveled to Syria since January 2012 to join militant groups like the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL) and the Nusra Front. A smaller number of American's have also been confirmed to have traveled to the Middle East to join, fight, and die for these organizations.

The increased radicalization of Western citizens has put national security departments on edge, as they worry about militants using their Western passports to regain entry to their home countries, and potentially carry out terrorist activities.

In response, Britain has in recent days raised its terror threat level to "severe," and worked to obtain more warrants to investigate suspicious activity.
