Lisa Simon Dies: Longtime 'Sesame Street' Director and Producer Was 64

Lisa Simon, longtime "Sesame Street" director and producer, reportedly died April 4 at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of childhood memories for innumerable children and adults.

Simon spent more than four decades on "Sesame Street," from the beginning through its current 45th season, The Hollywood Reporter said. She joined the show as a production assistant while she was in college, taking care of children and working as a file clerk.

Over the years, she worked up to producer by season 12, and then started directing in season 13. She has won 20 Daytime Emmy Awards for directing and production on the popular children’s series.

In addition to her years of work creating the magical world of Sesame Street, Simon worked on numerous videos and television specials.

Her death was announced by Jodi Lefkowitz of Seasame Workshop. Simon died on her 64th birthday, leaving behind a sister, Cheri, two nieces, and two grand-nephews, THR reported.
