Lisa Royle, a breast cancer patient, shared a selfie on Facebook recently showing an abnormality on her breast that she hopes will help other women in early detection.

The 42-year-old posted the photo to encourage women to be aware of what is happening with their bodies and to be diligent in checking the condition of their breasts, according to CBS News.

Royle took the photo of dimples on her left breast days before having a mastectomy, according to the Daily Mail.

Ok so I never thought I'd post a boob picture on Facebook but I thought I would before it gets chopped off next week....

“I never thought I'd post a boob picture on Facebook but I thought I would before it gets chopped off next week,” Royle wrote. “This all that I found on my boob. Very subtle dimples underneath that could easily be missed when we're all rushing round getting ready in a morning. Please take time to look at your boobs. It could save your life.”

“My wife is an absolute inspiration,” Royle’s husband Craig said, according to the Daily Mail.

Updating friends and family Monday, Craig wrote, “Lisa is out of surgery and doing really well. Bit groggy from the morphine but in good spirits and should be home later this evening. The support has blown us away so a massive thanks to you all.”

“Getting the message out there about reporting signs and symptoms of breast cancer early is crucial,” Breast Cancer Care clinical nurse specialist Jackie Harris told the Daily Mail. “A prompt diagnosis can mean simpler and more effective treatment so it’s important that women of any age look at and feel their breasts regularly and if they notice any unusual breast changes to go and see their GP as soon as possible.”

Since posting, the photo had been shared more than 70,000 times. CBS News noted.
