Former pro wrestling mogul Linda McMahon is ready to jump back into the political ring with another Senate bid in 2012, the Hartford Courant
McMahon is expected to declare her candidacy for the Connecticut Senate seat currently held by independent Joe Lieberman, who has said he will not seek re-election.
The former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO ran for a Connecticut Senate seat in 2010 but lost to Democrat Richard Blumenthal. This time, the multimillionaire plans a different strategy, the Courant said.
In 2012, McMahon relied on a slick ad campaign and highly paid handlers. This time, her focus will be more “grassroots,” a strategist told the paper.
She will be up against former Rep. Chris Shays and Hartford attorney Brian K. Hill in the Republican primary. Vernon Mayor Jason McCoy is also considering getting into the race.
State Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola told the Courant he had spoken with McMahon and “it appears her announcement is imminent.”
