Leonard Nimoy, known for his role as Captain Spock in the "Star Trek" series, was hospitalized Thursday after complaining of severe chest pains, TMZ reported.

After a 911 call, the actor was transported to UCLA Medical Center, TMZ said.

Last year, Nimoy revealed that he had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and he has been in an out of hospitals frequently in recent months.

The Los Angeles Times reported that paramedics were dispatched to Nimoy’s home on Thursday, and one person was hospitalized, but officials wouldn’t confirm whether it was the 83-year-old actor.

Nimoy hasn’t commented about the incident. A message posted to his Twitter account on Sunday didn’t mention the event.

Nimoy’s Twitter account frequently includes posts encouraging people to quit smoking, which Nimoy blames for his illness even though he quit smoking more than 30 years ago. His posts also often end with “LLAP,” which stands for live long and prosper, Captain Spock’s catchphrase.

Well wishes for Nimoy spread on Twitter.
