Lena Dunham has been cast to play in "American Horror Story" season 7, the FX horror anthology co-creator, Ryan Murphy, revealed on Wednesday via Twitter.

Dunham recently wrapped up the latest HBO series of "Girls" and will turn her focus on working alongside previously announced "American Horror Story" cast members Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Billie Lourd, noted Variety.

It has been an eventful year for Dunham, who made news in May after being rushed to the hospital after the 2017 Met Gala.

Sharing an image of herself in a hospital bed on Instagram, Dunham explained that she was admitted after complications arose from previous endometriosis surgery.

"Thank you for all the love & concern that's been pouring in since Tuesday. Although I'm much healthier than I was a year ago, complications arose from my most recent endometriosis surgery."

Thank you for all the love & concern that's been pouring in since Tuesday. Although I'm much healthier than I was a year ago, complications arose from my most recent endometriosis surgery. When the healthcare of so many American women, especially our trans sisters, is at-risk- or already nonexistent- I am lucky to be in the position to seek help when I'm in pain. To those in that privileged spot- never forget that we are blessed and can pay it forward by supporting Planned Parenthood and LGBTQ clinics like Callen-Lorde with our 💰 and ⌚️. I also want to remind all the women suffering from chronic illness that we aren't weak- quite the opposite, actually. We do our jobs with skill even when we're struggling. We care for our families even when we can hardly care for ourselves. We serve major face on a red carpet when we feel like lying face down would be more appropriate. I'll always be proud of those Met Gala pics- not just because I felt beautiful, surrounded by art and magic, hugging my best friend tightly, but because they're evidence that women contain steely multitudes. Just that morning @dianafalzone sued Fox after they took her off air for disclosing her endometriosis. But they're the ones who lost when they lost her, because everyone who's anyone knows that if you can battle chronic illness there's nothing you can't take on.

The actress has since recovered and fans are excited to see her performance in "American Horror Story."

Adding to anticipation for the forthcoming series, Murphy revealed on Thursday the latest season would be entitled "American Horror Story: Cult," according to E! News.

Fans were further treated to a short, 15 second teaser trailer, also revealed earlier this week.

Earlier this year, Murphy said that the latest season of "American Horror Story" would have political undertones.

Speaking to Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" he said, "The season is going to be about the election that we just went through, so I think that will be interesting for a lot of people."

Cohen seemed intrigued, asking if Donald Trump would be played in it, but Murphy, who has been vague on other details of the series, replied with a simple "maybe."

"The first 10 minutes of the season takes place in a very eerie macabre way on Election Night and there’s something terrible that happens in the lives of our characters on Election Night as they’re watching it all go down," Murphy said, according to Fox News.
