Kristen Gillibrand said she's "ruling out" a 2020 bid for the presidency after the U.S. Senator appeared on potential candidacy lists for the next run for the White House.

Publications such as The Washington Post, The Hill and Mother Jones included Gillibrand on lists of possible 2020 democratic presidential candidates, but she said she will remain focused on the Senate, according to New York magazine.

During a visit at Fort Drum in Jefferson County, New York, Gillibrand told reporters that she's "dedicated to serving our state as our senator, and I'm running for re-election so I can continue to be their senator."

"I'm focused entirely on running for Senate, so yes, I'm ruling it out," she added, regarding the 2020 presidential election.

Some, including Susan Collins, the senior U.S. Senator for Maine, speculated that Gillibrand might have been setting up a bid to go up against President Donald Trump, given her outspoken opposition to him, New York magazine noted.

"It would not surprise me if Kristen were a candidate for higher office some day," Collins said, according to the magazine.

Gillibrand also deflected rumors about a possible presidential run during an interview in February, according to CBS News.

"No, I am running for Senate," she said, at the time, during an appearance on John Catsimatidis' "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York. "I'm running for Senate in 2018."

"I really love my job and I feel like I can make a huge difference for New Yorkers, fighting for them," Gillibrand added.

Gillibrand replaced Hillary Clinton in the Senate in 2009 and was re-elected in 2012.

Prior to serving in the Senate, she served in the House for two years.
