Krispy Kreme's new doughnut-flavored soda will only be sold to customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and parts of Georgia for the time being, but the unusual concoction is already creating a buzz across the nation.

According to a Krispy Kreme statement obtained by USA Today, the regional soft drink bottler Cheerwine, based in North Carolina, mixed its famous cherry-flavored drink with a "hint of Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed flavor" in order to make the new recipe.

The new softdrink, Cheerwine Kreme, can be found in grocery stores, convenience stores, and Krispy Kreme doughnut shops. Notably, Krispy Kreme once sold Cheerwine-filled doughnuts for a limited period in 2010.

Cheerwine officially introduced the product with a Facebook post last Friday.

"If we can depend on America for anything, it's putting two powerful foods together to make another, even more powerful food," wrote Mashable journalist Chloe Bryan. "Such is the case with Cheerwine Kreme, which combines two beloved, sugar-laden treats — Krispy Kreme donuts and cherry soda — into something that, frankly, is probably too sweet."

Calling the drink a "cavity-birthing union," The Huffington Post wrote that Cheerwine is investigating the possibility of selling the drink online as well, for those who are craving that doughnut-cherry soda taste.

The Charlotte Observer wrote that the drink's color appears to be a watered down version of Cheerwine's regular dark red drink.

The Krispy Kreme soda got plenty of mixed reviews on social media. Many were curious, some wondered if it was just a publicity stunt.
