Kirstie Alley's Weight Loss of 50 Pounds 'Different' This Time

Kirstie Alley says her weight loss of 50 pounds to bring in the New Year will be different this time because she has learned to keep the weight off permanently instead of always regaining it.

Alley told "Today" show host Matt Lauer that the 50-pound weight loss surpassed her 2014 goal by 20 pounds and she did it all on Jenny Craig, the weight-loss company for which she's a paid spokesperson.

"This time it's different," the actress said on "Today." "My goal is to keep this and maintain this throughout my life. … I feel like I've conquered that now. I'm sort of hardheaded. You know, when I used to do drugs, it took me a while to quit, quit, quit – and then it was done. And I feel like that's occurred for me (with my weight now.)"

Alley tweeted last June about her latest round of weight loss progress.

E! News chronicled Alley's public struggle with her weight for more than a decade, which included her first becoming a Jenny Craig spokesperson in 2004 and her debut in the Showtime series "Fat Actress."

In 2006, Alley appeared on the "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in a bikini after losing 75 pounds and weighing a reported 145 pounds, according to E! News. The following year, the actress left Jenny Craig.

By 2009, though, E! News said that Alley had reportedly reached 230 pounds and launched her own diet plan, Organic Liaison, and in 2010 tweeted that she lost 50 pounds. The former "Cheers" actress competed in "Dancing With the Stars" in 2011 where she placed second with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Alley returned to Jenny Craig last April and the company had acquired her Organic Liaison line of products, noted E! News.

"Before I've had more of a view of 'Get to the goal, have the goal,'" Alley said on "Today." "I really looked at it as this is my life, and until I'm dead basically, I am going to keep this this way, instead of like, 'Oh I lost 50 pounds and now I can do whatever I want.'"
