Kevin Christopher Bollaert: Revenge Porn Site Operator Gets 18 Years

Kevin Christopher Bollaert, the owner of a now-defunct "revenge porn" website that posted more than 10,000 sexually explicit images of women without their consent, was sentenced Friday to 18 years in jail.

Bollaert, 28, was sentenced nearly two months after being convicted of 21 counts of identity theft and six counts of extortion in connection to his ugotposted.com website, where people uploaded nude and often explicit photos of their exes. Most of the pictures were of women.

Bollaert then charged victims from $300 to $350 to have the images removed. He was also ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution to his victims and a $10,000 fine.

The judge is allowing Bollaert to serve the sentence in a county jail rather than state prison, according to The Los Angeles Times.

"Sitting behind a computer, committing what is essentially a cowardly and criminal act, will not shield predators from the law or jail," San Diego Attorney General Kamala Harris said in a statement. "We will continue to be vigilant and investigate and prosecute those who commit these deplorable acts."

Bollaert victimized teachers, wives, and professionals, and led to people losing their jobs, scarring their relationships, and one attempted suicide, USA Today reported. Prosecutors said the images were posted between Dec. 2, 2012, and Sept. 17, 2013.

Worse, Bollaert reportedly encouraged users to post identifying information, such as the name, age, and address of the person in the image. Twenty-one of his victims testified during the trial about how they were embarrassed and humiliated because of Bollaert's actions.

"It ruined my life and I'm still going through it," one unidentified woman testified, according to The Daily Mail. "I lost my family. They think that I brought shame on them. My reputation is ruined."

Another woman told said she received hundreds of messages on social media after pictures of her were posted. She had to leave college and seek psychiatric help.

"It's been so traumatic," the woman said, according to the LA Times. "It's a daily struggle to get my life together."

Bollaert didn't speak during sentencing, but his father apologized to the victims, KFMB-TV reported. He said he was "sorry we are here today because of a shameful, stupid, inappropriate thing my son did. My heart goes out to all of you."
