Kentucky Teens on Crime Spree Worthy of Bonnie and Clyde: Report

By    |   Friday, 16 Jan 2015 03:37 PM

Two Kentucky teenagers appear to be on a crime spree worthy of Bonnie and Clyde, but family members are hoping authorities can find them before anything terrible happens.

Dalton Hayes, 18, and Cheyenne Phillips, 13, took off on January 3 from their Kentucky homes, allegedly stealing a neighbors truck, and through surveillance video were traced to a Wal-Mart in Manning, South Carolina, Fox News reported.

The two have allegedly stolen vehicles, passed bad checks, and burglarized property, Fox said. There were two guns in one of the vehicles they believe Hayes and Phillips stole.

"I'd consider them armed," Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins told reporters Thursday. "The longer they're gone the worse the situation can become and we don't want it to get any worse than it is . . . I'm just afraid that he's going to wind up getting her hurt and she's not going to return."

Hayes’ mother, who was not identified by name, told ABC News that she just wants her son to come home safely.

"You know we love you, miss you all, and we need you home and safe," she said in a message to her son. "We know that you all have done wrong, but you need to step up and take the consequences of what you’ve done and come home."

Fox’s WDRB reported that Phillips’ parents said their daughter is known for lying, and that Hayes may not have known her real age.

The couple has been tracked to the theft of a silver 2001 Toyota Tundra with a Georgia license plate of CR116I, Kentucky.com reported, and it may be the vehicle they are driving now.

"These are two local kids that everybody here knows," Chaffins said. "We think it's important for them to get back home, because they're starting to bite off a little more than they can chew. Our concern is that they could get themselves hemmed up in something that they . . . We just don't want them to get hurt."
