Texas cop Ken Johnson took things into his own hands when he saw two teens out of place in his parking lot, and now he has been charged with murder in their shootings.

Johnson, 35, was off-duty when he initially confronted the teenagers at his apartment complex in the Dallas suburb of Addison on Sunday, reported the Dallas Morning News.

Authorities told the Morning News that Johnson alleged seeing the teens, identified as Jose Cruz, 16, and Edgar Rodriguez, 16, burglarizing a vehicle. Cruz and Rodriguez fled in Cruz's vehicle and Johnson gave chase.

The teens ended up in an "altercation" with Johnson when their vehicle later spun out of control in Addison and Johnson reportedly fired on them.

NBC News said Cruz was shot in the head and rib cage, according to family representative Carlos Quintanilla, and died from his injuries. Rodriguez was shot once in the finger.

Johnson was booked into the Dallas County Jail on Wednesday night on a bond of $100,000 for the murder charge and $50,000 for the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

"Based on our investigation thus far we had probable cause to make an arrest," said Addison Police Chief Paul Spencer. "But this is a rapidly-evolving situation and it remains an active investigation. Therefore, we are refraining at this time from discussing the evidence collected thus far or about the specifics of this case."

WFAA-TV said Johnson has been a member of the Farmers Branch Police Department since March 2015 and had previously served in the U.S. Army. Johnson was an officer with the Dallas Area Rapid Transit police before working in Farmers Branch.
