Kate, William's 'Princess Alice' a Top Possibility, British Bookies Say

Princess Kate and Prince William are expecting their second baby together this week, and British bookies are giving the best odds to the child being a girl named Alice.

"Alice and Alexandra both have royal pedigree, as Alice is the name of Queen Victoria's third child and the late Duchess of Gloucester, aunt of Queen Elizabeth II," reported People magazine.

"Alexandra was the name of the Danish wife of Edward VII and also happens to be the second name of Queen Elizabeth, which ticks the royal boxes of being both modern and traditional."

Even though the gender of the baby has not been made public, British online betting agency Ladbrokes has given the name Alice 5/4 odds, while rival bookmakers William Hill gives 6/4 odds.

The name Elizabeth follows at 6/1 and 11/2 odds from the respective bookmakers, and Alexandra sits at 16/1.

"The support for Alice is starting to get silly now, but we’ve been left with no option but to cut the odds as punters relentlessly back the girl/Alice combination," Ladbrokes spokeswoman Jessica Bridge told The Telegraph U.K.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge could end up having a boy, with the odds favoring James, Arthur, Henry, Philip, Alexander, and Albert — in that order.

Last time around, when the couple's first baby arrived, betters had overwhelmingly backed the name George, and that turned out to be true. That has led many to chase some of the larger bets placed on Alice this time around, as it's possible that someone connected to those bets has some insider info.

With the payout standing at 5/4, however, betters aren't poised to make nearly as much as those who've bet on the seemingly longshot names.
