The new "Jumanji" movie drew fire Tuesday as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson posted an Instagram photo of cast members including Karen Gillan who is seen in a revealing costume many are calling sexist.

Hypable’s headline screamed, “What year is it?” and compared Gillan’s look to a "Lara Croft" action game "from the ‘90s." "Do better, Hollywood," opined columnist Selina Wilken.

The "Jumanji" reconstitution of the 1995 Robin Williams comedy also stars Kevin Hart and Jack Black, and has already drawn criticism for being unnecessary and for Johnson’s references to Gillan as “girl” when announcing the casting, according to Wilken.

“We had to find a girl,” Johnson said at the announcement, “but not just any girl.” He continued: “A girl who has ‘Chutzpah. Guts and talent to stand her ground and hold her own.”

Although Johnson called Gillan’s role the most important in the movie, he was criticized for using the diminutive “girl” in referring to her.

Now, the first look at Gillan’s skimpy jungle costume has many wondering just what Johnson and director Jake Kasdan may have been thinking. The costume has Gillan’s midriff and thighs bare, with decidedly impractical-looking boots and some kind of tight straps encircling her breasts.

Jessica Lachenal at The Mary Sue called the costume “super sexualized” and also questioned her character’s name, “Ruby Roundhouse.”

Johnson, however, has asked for the benefit of the doubt in posting with the picture: "Her jungle wardrobe will make sense when you know the plot. Trust me."

But that doesn't seem like something viewers are ready to give him. Many people on Twitter are livid with the sexualized costume while others think it's much ado about nothing.
