Julia Roberts' Sister's Suicide Note Slams Actress for 'Abandoning' Her

By    |   Thursday, 03 Jul 2014 11:52 AM

The suicide note left by Julia Roberts' late half-sister Nancy Motes was made public this week, and it blames the superstar actress for cruel treatment that "drove me into the deepest depression I’ve ever been in."

Motes, a dog walker and production assistant on "Glee," was found dead at the age of 37 on February 9 in a bathtub surrounded by pills. Roberts originally described the death as an accidental overdose, however a Los Angeles coroner's report and Motes' suicide note make it a clear case of suicide.

Part of the suicide note was published in court filings regarding Motes' estate, and was obtained by The Daily Mail on Tuesday.

Part of the note reads that, "If anything happens to me," fiancée John Dilbeck should receive "whatever he wants of my possessions," including their dog Lucy.

It goes on to say "My mother and so-called 'siblings' get nothing except the memory that they are the ones that drove me into the deepest depression I’ve ever been in."

The words echo sentiments Motes expressed publicly on Twitter in the weeks before her death, where she claimed her half-sister Julia had been cruel to her throughout her life, criticizing her weight, among other things. "My own family has abandoned me," she wrote at the time.

After her death, Dilbeck said Roberts didn't even invite him to his own fiancée's funeral.

In the suicide note, Motes asks Dilbeck to forgive her. She wrote that she was "nothing but a junky" and that her fiancée would be "better off w/out [without] me."

"I know this will effect you the most and & I can’t apologize enough. I was truly blessed & lucky to have you as my true love and best friend. I will carry you with me forever."

Motes ends the note with the words, "And I am so sorry."
