Joseph Fauria, NFL Player, Injured ... Chasing His Puppy

Joseph Fauria, the Detroit Lions tight end, finally disclosed how he sprained his left ankle last week: chasing after his rambunctious, pee-happy puppy.

ESPN caught up with Fauria at his locker on Monday, where he had a medical boot on his foot and a pair of crutches under his arms.

"He was about to pee and I was like, 'Come here you little . . . nugget,'" he said of his 3-month-old Pomeranian-Husky mix, Lil' Rufio.

"I was chasing him downstairs. I wasn't running but I was chasing him downstairs and I just misstepped and I reached with my left foot and I just didn't end up well . . . It was kind of agonizing pain."

That same day, he took to Twitter to post a picture of the Pomsky, asking that no one be mean to the little guy.

He also revealed that Lil' Rufio has his own Instagram account, in addition to being frequently featured on his keeper's account.

Fauria also dismissed previous rumors that he hurt his ankle at a volleyball game or at a bar. The second-year pro was at a game earlier that day, but he wasn't playing.

"I heard footgolf, basketball, lewd activities as well," Fauria said. "I'm no stranger to rumors. I did get suspended from a school and I know those rumors were around, too. I'm no stranger to it, but I was there supporting my friends and it happened two hours after."

Team doctors haven't given an exact timeline for Fauria's recovery as of yet.
