Joran van der Sloot a Father; Prison Love Child Born Far Away

Imprisoned Dutch killer Joran van der Sloot, chief suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, is now a father.

The Associated Press reported van der Sloot attorney Maximo Altez as saying the girl was born Sunday in Lima, Peru – far from the remote prison where van der Sloot is serving a 28-year sentence for killing a Peruvian business student in 2010.

Altez says the child is named Dushy after van der Sloot's grandmother.

Van der Sloot married 24-year-old Leidy Figueroa in July. A month later, authorities sent him to a prison high in the Andes, saying he had threatened to kill the warden of the lockup near Lima.

Altez previously said Figueroa was selling goods inside Piedras Gordas prison when she met van der Sloot, who is serving a 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores. Flores' murder happened exactly five years to the day of Holloway's disappearance.

Van Der Sloot will be extradited to the United States in 2038 after he completes his prison sentence in Peru.

In the U.S. van der Sloot stands accused of extorting money from Holloway's mother, having allegedly promised to describe the circumstances of Holloway's death and information as to the whereabouts of her body in return for monetary compensation. He was indicted on federal charges of extortion and wire fraud by U.S. authorities.

Holloway, an 18-year-old from Mountain Brook, Ala., was on a graduation trip to Aruba with other seniors when she went missing.

Despite an extensive search, which involved the FBI, Dutch Air Force and local Aruban authorities, Holloway was never found. The 18-year-old was declared legally dead by an Alabama judge on January 12, 2012.

Holloway was last seen sitting in a car outside a bar with van der Sloot and a pair of brothers, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, which made them the prime suspects in her disappearance. The case against the three suspects was dropped in December of 2007 by local prosecutors due to what they said was a lack of evidence.
