Jon Hamm 'Cover-Up' Rumor Gains Ground as 'Mad Men' Season 6 Nears

The cast of AMC's "Mad Men" gathered Wednesday night to screen the season six premiere at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, but it was a certain rumor about leading man Jon Hamm's big problem that really took center stage.

A rumor has been floating around that Hamm, who plays Don Draper on the period drama that follows the professional and personal lives of advertising executives in New York City, was reportedly instructed to cover up while on set, according to an AMC insider.

"This season takes place in the 1960s, where the pants are very tight and leave little to the imagination," the insider told the New York Daily News. "Jon's impressive anatomy is so distracting that they politely insisted [he wear] underwear."

AMC's marketing team even had to do some Photoshop work on the marketing materials for seasons one and two of the show to make Hamm's privates look more, well, private, the inside source said.

"It is ridiculous and not really funny at all," a rep for Hamm said to the Daily News when asked about the rumor. "I'd appreciate you taking the high road and not resorting to something childish like this that's been blogged about 1,000 times."

Some reporters confronted Hamm on the red carpet at Wednesday's premiere and asked him if he'd heard about the rumors.

"Yes, but I don't need to talk about that," he told Yahoo's omg! gossip page.

Luckily, it seems Hamm won't have to worry, as men's underwear retailer Jockey has offered the actor free underwear for life.

The sixth season of "Mad Men" will debut with a special two-hour premiere April 7 on AMC at 9 p.m. EST.
