John Travolta responded to gay rumors in an interview with The Daily Beast last week, saying a former pilot at his company making claims of a six-year affair with Travolta all stems from money.

The twice-nominated Academy Award actor, while not mentioning accuser Douglas Gotterba specifically in the interview, alluded to the former pilot saying he had a personal relationship with Travolta in the 1980s. In July, a California appeals court ruled that Gotterba would not bound by a confidentiality agreement to not talk about his relationship with the movie star.

Travolta told the Daily Beast he has learned through the years that celebrity and money have made him a target for others.

"This is every celebrity's Achilles heel," Travolta said, speaking of his latest legal trouble from the Gotterba suit. "It's just about people wanting money. That's all. It happens on many levels."

Travolta, who first made it big on the 1970s television series "Welcome Back Kotter," said that while he was not concerned with Gotterba's lawsuit or the potential of a tell-all book, he admitted that being so hands-off may have perpetuated speculation.

"I don't care that much about it," Travolta, who has been married to actress Kelly Preston for more than 20 years, told The Daily Beast. "Other people may attack it back more than I do, but I let all the media stuff go a long time ago because I can't control it. I think that's why it persists, to some degree."

The "Pulp Fiction" star said in the interview he believed the media crossed the line during the death of his 16-year-old son Jett in 2009. The young Travolta was found by the family nanny Jeff Kathrein, which some tabloids charged was Travolta's lover.

"I found it most offensive with the loss of my son," Travolta told the Daily Beast. "I felt like that was the lowest I'd ever felt. Sex stuff is always going to be interesting to somebody, but you stay away from family. You really should. With that, I always felt like the media — not all of the media, but parts of it — went too low there."
