Missing Indiana mother of two Joelle Lockwood, 30, was kept in a cage and wearing a dog collar before being rescued from two months of captivity and abuse.

Ricky Roy House Jr., 37, and his girlfriend, Kendra Tooley, 44, were charged Monday with rape, criminal confinement, kidnapping, and other felonies related to Lockwood's case, The Associated Press reported. Tooley’s ex-husband, Ron Higgs, found Lockwood during a visit to the couple’s mobile home.

Higgs told WEHT-TV that Tooley told him about Lockwood. "She (Tooley) slid over on the couch beside me and said 'I've got a girl back here in a cage,’” he said.

Lockwood pleaded for Higgs to help her.

"She says 'please don't leave here without me.' I said 'what's the matter?' She says 'I've been here for over 60 days and they put me in that cage,'" Higgs told the TV station.

Higgs offered money for the woman, but House put a shotgut to his chin, according to reports. Higgs was able to free Lockwood and take her to his home, where she called family and police.

The ordeal began when Lockwood was walking in Evansville, Indiana, and accepted a ride from House, who was an acquaintance, according to the Indianapolis Star.

She agreed to go to the couple’s home, and when she tried to leave House allegedly put choloroform over her mouth and nose. Lockwood was bound to the bed, kept in a cage, and forced to have sex with House and Tooley, according to reports. She also was forced to cook and clean and was given little food or water.

"It was pretty much modernized slavery in my eyes," Posey County Chief Deputy Sheriff Tom Latham told The Associated Press.

According to court documents, House was trying to impregnate Lockwood because Tooley was too old to have children.

Twitter users were horrified.
