MSNBC's Joe Scarborough appears to have shifted somewhat on the gun violence issue, moving off his firm gun control stance.

During a segment on Friday's show, Scarborough was discussing California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein's suggestion that, in addition to gun control, the nation should focus on violence as it is depicted in popular culture.

In the segment, Scarborough criticized President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the Hollywood "left" for not holding video game makers and movie producers accountable for the role they play in fostering our "violent culture."

In recent months, Scarborough has been a consistent critic of the National Rifle Association largely for the NRA's reaction to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

"What I find concerning is liberals that have been championing this bill will talk about the NRA, the NRA, the NRA, the NRA," said Scarborough.

"Who's getting on the floor and talked about Quentin Tarantino?" asked Scarborough. "Who in the administration has talked about the glorified violence? Where he uses . . . blood and guts and gore as punch lines and then he's praised in Hollywood."

The criticism prompted "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski, a consistent liberal, to utter, "Because its art."

Scarborough continued, "Its pornography is what it is . . . I need to hear the president of the United States come out and go after his own base," Scarborough said. "I’ve gone after the NRA. I’ve talked about background checks . . . The president of the United States needs to do it. Joe Biden needs to do it. They need to talk about the violent video games."

Scarborough then clarified his position saying that violent video shouldn't all be banned, but "this has to be part of the conversation and liberals won't talk about it. ... I know it’s a lot of fun kicking around the NRA and kicking around Second Amendment supporters as a bunch of rednecks and people love doing that. ... It makes them feel morally superior. It does! It makes them feel morally superior. Why don’t they do that to Hollywood?"

Scarborough concluded his rant with a critique of the New York Times, criticizing the liberal leaning paper for "praising" and "glorifying" Tarantino "while he's going around making the most insensitive comments about Newtown."
