Former “Good Morning America” host Joan Lunden is baring all in her fight against breast cancer, including posing for a People magazine cover without hair.

"I had to make this big decision about whether or not to do the cover with no hair. It certainly isn't the comfortable way to go, but I decided I was going to try and help others and show women that this isn't the end of the world," Lunden told People magazine in an interview. "You can go on — and that was hugely empowering."

Lunden will serve as a special correspondent to "Today" as part of a series about breast cancer during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The 64-year-old mother of seven told "Today" about the difficult decision to participate in the magazine cover.

"It was such a tough decision. As a parent, I worried how my kids would think," she said. "And it wasn’t the comfortable decision — knowing you were going to be seen by everyone in such a vulnerable way — but I know it was the right decision."

Lunden thanked her supporters on Twitter.
