Jimmy Gojdics, who starred in the reality show "Ultimate Survivor," was murdered at his home in  Alaska on Sunday and authorities seemed stumped about why and who could have killed him.

Alaska State Troopers spokesman Tim Despain told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that the shooting of 69-year-old Gojdics at his home in Fox is being investigated as a homicide and that the retiree's body was sent to the state's medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Troopers were dispatched to Gojdics' home at 3:06 p.m. and found the reality show participant "suffering from apparent gunshot wounds," according to the News-Miner. Doctors pronounced Gojdics dead after emergency personnel transported him to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

Despain told the News-Miner that there were currently no suspects in the shooting.

Gojdics appeared in the second season of "Ultimate Survivor Alaska" on the National Geographic Channel, with his last name spelled Gaydos.

According to the "Ultimate Survivor" website, Gojdics held numerous jobs, including fisherman, horse wrangler and trainer, blacksmith, forest service firefighter, carpenter, ironworker gold prospector and wilderness guide.

His words of wisdom on the show, according to its website, included, "Always have multiple means to build a fire. Always have a good knife. Always have extra dry socks and clothes warmer than you think you need. Always be prepared for the worst weather."

Chad Sandhas, a spokesman for the National Geographic Channel, told The Associated Press that Gojdics "sustained an injury that made it impossible for his team to continue in the competition" during the second season of the show.

"We were saddened to learn of Mr. Gaydos's untimely passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time," said Sandhas.

Fans expressed their condolences on social media.
