JFK Assassination: Detective Says Fatal Shot Came From Secret Service

By Morgan Chilson   |

The JFK assassination harbors a question that has plagued people for years: Who really shot John F. Kennedy? A retired Australian detective researching the case for years believes a Secret Service agent accidentally fired the killing shot.

Colin McLaren’s investigation into JFK’s death is the basis for a docudrama airing in November, “JFK: The Smoking Gun,” along with a book by Bonar Menninger, “Mortal Error: The Show that Killed JFK.”

Between the two men, they dug through evidence on the November 1963 shooting and believe that Agent George Hickey, who was riding behind Kennedy, fired a shot that hit the president, news.com.au reported.

The news site reported that McLaren told the Television Critics Association, “What we’re saying is that we believe it was a tragic accident in the heat of that moment.”

According to the ballistics evidence from a book by Howard Donahue and the work McLaren and Menninger did, they theorize Lee Harvey Oswald fired the first shot and Hickey tried to shoot back at Oswald.

The Detroit Free-Press said the idea is that Hickey tried to fire his rifle and the car “lurched” forward, so Hickey’s shot hit the president. McLaren was quoted by the paper as saying that Oswald’s second shot hit the president in the neck, but it may not have been a fatal hit.

The JFK assassination has been a favorite focus of conspiracy theorists since it happened in 1963, although the Warren Commission found that Oswald was acting alone in the shooting. The upcoming docudrama and interest in JFK still reels people in online.

The Daily Mirror article this Tweet refers to said that 75 percent of Americans don’t believe the accounts of exactly what occurred during the JFK assassination.
