IHOP's 57-Cent Pancakes Celebrate Restaurant's 57 Years in Business

By    |   Tuesday, 07 Jul 2015 01:53 PM

IHOP is offering 57-cent pancake short stacks on Tuesday to celebrate its 57th anniversary in business for a limited time only from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at one stack per customer for those dining in the restaurant.

The International House of Pancakes, which claims on its website that it welcomes “Breakfastarians with open arms” at all hours of the day and night, has 1,650 restaurants throughout all 50 states, as well as across different continents, and is extremely popular with those breakfast-craving diners who do not keep to standard business hours.

“Since 1958, IHOP has been the place where people connect over breakfast, enjoy study breaks, grab a bite before or after sporting events, and so much more,” the website states. “And no matter what menu items they order, there’s one ingredient that’s always constant — a smile . . . In fact, smiles are so much a part of our culture that we changed our logo to include one.”

Customers are especially expected to smile as they pile up and join the legions of hungry fans and customers staking out their place in the anticipated long lines on Tuesday. Although IHOP has experienced many changes over its 57-year history, its famous buttermilk pancakes have remained the restaurant’s most popular item, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

The 57-cent deal is only 3 cents less than the original price of 60 cents per each short stack that IHOP offered when Al and Jerry Lapin and Al and Trudy Kallis opened the first restaurant in Los Angeles in 1958, according to TurnTo10.

IHOP first used its trademark acronym in 1973 and, since then, the chain has claimed to value “innovation, collaboration, and diversity” in how it conducts its business through supporting its communities, valuing its employees, and caring for the environment, according to its website.

“These core values and beliefs are also how we hold ourselves and each other accountable to the vision of what we want IHOP to be,” the website states.
